My Very Own Reveal Day: Diving Deeper Into the Rebrand
It’s been a few weeks since announcing the rebrand of Studio One Nine Design (SOND)! We got new branding and a new website with the help of the talented team at Karima Creative. I’m so grateful to everyone for their kind words after revealing the new brand! And I want to share more about the process.
Surprisingly, the process was more vulnerable than I imagined – requiring me to think deeply and intentionally, and to be honest with myself and Karima about how I wanted Studio One Nine Design to show up in the world. I ask my clients to do the same – with a design questionnaire that requires them to think about how they want their home to look and feel, and I encourage clients to be honest with themselves, their partners, and me, about their design preferences, backgrounds, and lifestyles. I have to say: it’s not easy at first baring your soul in that way. But it has been so worth it!
THE RIGHT TIME TO REDESIGN THE BRAND
When I went full-time in the business on March 16, 2020, I had taught myself almost everything I knew about design. I was brand new to the industry and to entrepreneurship. I didn’t have a clear brand strategy or perspective, and I wasn’t clear on how I wanted to design or who I wanted to design for. I commissioned a talented friend of mine to create a basic logo and I completely DIYed my website.
As I continued to grow and learn over the years, I realized that my previous branding no longer worked for me. It lacked intention and felt outdated (even using photos taken years before), and this started to affect me. I began to feel like I wasn’t working within my potential because I was so out of alignment with how I was showing up. I realized it was time for a new beginning – to have a brand, website, and updated portfolio that showed how much I had grown and how much work I had put in. I knew a change had to be made.

THE RIGHT TIME TO REDESIGN YOUR HOME
Many clients feel the same way about their homes. They’ve tried the DIY route to no avail, buying things piecemeal with no clear direction, following what’s deemed trendy at the time, or using outdated furniture that no longer serves them. Their homes don’t reflect who they are now, and this imbalance starts to affect how they live and how they show up in the world. THE NEW STUDIO ONE NINE DESIGN
After taking the time and space to think deeply about SOND, I was able to gain clarity and communicate to Karima how important it was for the brand to be approachable, professional, balanced, vibrant, and global. These guiding adjectives were a combination of what previous clients had grown to know and love about working with me (how they always felt heard and listened to, like working with a trusted friend) and what I look forward to bringing to future clients (vibrant design punctuated with pops of color, pattern, and furniture + decor reminiscent of the places and cultures that mean the most to them). In the same way I use the information given by a client to create their custom design, Karima listened to the ideas I had and created custom branding – from the color scheme, to the patterns, to the fonts – in a way that truly reflects what I envisioned for the brand.
Rebranding taught me that it’s okay to be honest with ourselves when something is no longer working for us, and that it is always worth the time, money, and energy to come out on the other side of a transformational process happy, relieved, and grateful that we took the chance to invest in ourselves.
Now, I feel at home in my brand. It feels good operating from a place of alignment. I’m able to show up as my authentic self and attract my ideal clients. I feel joy again for the work I do and optimistic for the future of the business.
